چکیده

Football is a demanding sport requiring specifi c repetitive technical gestures involving the foot and ankle. This must be taken into account in the understanding of complaints, the search for diagnostics, and the selection of the appropriate action. Patient’s expectations usually include full recovery with fast return to previous activity level. Overuse and post-trauma events (isolated or in association) are the most frequent etiologic factors of tendon-related problems. The goal of this chapter is to present an overview of peroneal tendons (evertors) and posterior tibial tendon (invertor) pathologies in football. The therapeutic options herein discuss the aim to refl ect the requirements of football players in their active period. Complementary data including a broad analysis of ankle anatomy, biomechanics, physiopathology, and treatment including a complete surgical manual can be found on http://www.ankleplatform.com .

Posterior tibial tendon transfer improves function for foot drop after knee dislocation.

BACKGROUND Knee dislocation may be associated with an injury to the common peroneal nerve with a subsequent foot drop. Previous studies have demonstrated good functional results after posterior tibial tendon transfer in patients with foot drop. No studies, to our knowledge, have focused exclusively on knee dislocation as the cause of common peroneal nerve injury leading to foot drop. QUESTION...

Anterior transfer of tibialis posterior tendon for treating drop foot: Technique of enforcing tendon implantation to improve success rate.

UNLABELLED An absolutely convincing technique of anterior transfer of the tibialis posterior (TP) tendon for treating drop foot has not been developed. Thirty-seven consecutive adult patients with drop foot owing to deep peroneal nerve injury were treated with bone-to-bone TP tendon transfer. The TP tendon with a small bony attachment was procured from the undersurface of the navicula and then ...

New method for fixation point of tibialis posterior tendon transfer

BACKGROUND The transfer of the tibialis posterior tendon to the dorsum of foot can restore the function of theparalyzed dorsiflexor muscles of the foot and ankle. In order to reduce the wound complication in the insertionsite of tendon to bone by a plantar knop we used a new method of fixation by an absorbable screw inserted dorsally. METHODS we performed this operation on 15 patients in a 3 ...

Classic and modified Barr's technique of anterior transfer of the tibialis posterior tendon in irreparable peroneal palsies.

Peroneal palsy with loss of active dorsal flexion in foot can be surgically treated by anterior transfer of tibialis posterior tendon. Two techniques are available, classic and modified Barr's technique of the anterior transfer of tibialis posterior tendon, with different place of tendon's reinsertion. The aim of the study is evaluation of the degree of active dorsal flexion in foot, and appear...
